Saw an article the other day that it is indeed dying. Thank christ.
My local theater has giant reclining seats w/ foot rests and all, 8 bucks a ticket if you go during the day time. Idk how much the night tickets are, 8 buck is too good to pass up for that kinda comfort
Yeah, I've never seen nor will I ever see a movie in 3D.
Theater I go to in central NY is $6.50 during the day and like 8 something at night.

It's on a very rare occasion good
Seriously though some of you pay crazy prices for shows. Mine seems to make all it's money in concessions given the pricing and lines. Seriously see people pay $10 for a ticket then $20-30 for a couple of snacks. Fuck that I'm bringing stuff in
I have only seen 4 movies in 3D, mostly due to showtimes. Only one was really good (How to Train your Dragon) The others were a waste, The Force Awakens and Hobbit 2
Regal and Cinemark is what we have in the East Bay. We have an AMC IMax near us, but it's garbage tier.
Regal is about 15 bucks a ticket for non matinee premium RPX sound theater. About 12 bucks for standard, 10.50 for Matinee. Imax can go for 18-20 depending on if it's 3D or not.
I'll smuggle in a bottle of water or something if I'm really thirsty but thankfully the Alamo near me will give you a lovely tall glass of ice water for free. My no-buying policy has an exception though. I'll buy the parmesan popcorn at Alamo like once in a blue moon because that shit is made of dreams and cocaine.
The problem with 3D not dying faster is that a large majority of bigger screens like imax or better sounding theaters will ONLY show the movie in 3D and won't have a 2D option.
If I want to see an IMAX without driving more than 1.5hrs it's almost assuredly going to be in 3D and I fucking hate it. At least give me a choice. I want 2D IMAX.
Haven't been to the theatre in roughly four years. Only reason I went was a bunch of friends wanted to see the newest (at the time) Underworld movie and it was in 3D. Awful experience. Last time I enjoyed going to the movies was when The Dark Knight came out and I watched on a Tuesday or something in the morning. Was just me, a guy and his kid.
3D ruins even the greatest movies.
These are the seats of my 8 dollar theater, comfy AF, shit reclines and all

ive always hated 3d movies but when I finally saw Doc Strange i did regret not seeing it in 3D lol
I usually just smuggle in whole meals from random fast food nearby lol. Mine the stuff their is pretty bottom barrel AND expensive. Well except occasionally the blue slushies but for some reason that one is always broken.
I end up watching 3D a lot because I love dissapointment and sometimes only way to get IMAX and so far only 5 I liked. How to train your dragon, Guardians vol 2, WW (and even this one was mostly just a few nice scene while final scene it just made it even more ridiculous), Dr. Strange and Avatar. Everything else ranged from highly meh and it'd only be worth it if same price to actively worse to an enormous eyestrain.
Also man matinee pricing only for actual morning for some of you peeps? My theaters it's mantinee more often then not lol
Edit: Shit I forgot Beowulf. Actually was decent 3D but the movie itself was well forgetable
I like 3D on certain stuff like Star Wars and Marvel movies but not everything needs a 3D treatment.
That being said, when I went to see Spider-Man we got a 3D trailer for Valerian and the story looks like it's gonna be terrible but the 3D looked incredible, almost like seeing Avatar for the first time.
I remember Hugo being pretty great in 3D, but it really is a waste for most movies.
