Starting March 8, 2007, players will be able to create new characters on the World of their choice. Up until now, Worlds would be randomly assigned to characters upon their creation, while only players with World Passes could join their friends. However, with this new adjustment, all players, even ones without World Passes, will have the option to select their realm at the character selection screen.

Originally, the World Pass system was introduced to maintain a balance among all the Worlds and prevent overpopulation. However, with the continued stablization of each World's adventurer community and recent technical advances in server technology, it has been determined that allowing players to create new characters on Worlds of their choice would not greatly affect the current population balance.

In conjunction with this change, we have updated the character creation screen to include a new pull-down window from which players can select the World of their choice. Also, additional characters added to an account will no longer be automatically assigned to the same World as the first character. Players will be free to choose where they wish that new character to reside, be it the same World, or a completely different one.

Finally, the development team is continuing their work on World selection by making preparations for a new service that will allow players to move their characters to different Worlds. Please keep a close watch on the Topics page for further updates on this exciting feature.

*While all World Passes will become void after March 8, 2007, Gold World Passes will continue to be distributed to players who wish to purchase them. Any adventurers who would like to invite their friends to Vana'diel can still utilize the Gold World Pass feature and take advantage of the special benefits this unique system has to offer.

Aww so they're removing the world passes from the game, you won't be missed.

I guess the lack of influx of new characters in the game is freeing up this option

Notice how they carefully used the word "ecent technical advances in server technology" to explain why they opened up this feature. I love it.

March 8th.... maybe that's when the patch is? i know its not a monday-tuesday but i would think they would need to patch some of the adjustments.

I'm not sure what's the current situation there, but if it was open to 22 (or something) other server, it wouldnt be that bad. There would be some inflation/deflation, but it would probably balance out pretty quick, and not too far from the original value.

It's a price I would be definitively willing to pay to be able to play with people on other server with friends. Too bad it will never happen, because it would cause way too much problem for them.

i know theres little faith but i would hope SE wouldn't make the transfer so poorly setup that people could lootwhore every fafnir ect. also that could impact gilsellers as they no longer need to have as strong of a hold on one server, when they can switch their characters around to other servers.

other than that, yeah it sucks that people can infest other servers. i guess carbuncle would be one of those "bad servers". we're not really notorious for anything but theres a massive jp-only community and argueably only 1 (maybe 2) decent english ls' that (no offense to them) don't really compare to some of the amazing ls that people represent on here all the time.

hahahaha more choco racing delay, doesn't surprise me. Little curious as to what's taking them so long though.

I bet they put a cap on how many times you can transfer servers within a certain amount of time, something like only once every 6 months

This... this is epic.

They would need to limit it to max one switch per character, to avoid people server hopping and destroying the community.

But I mean... I've never made any attempt to hide my hatred for Sylph. Granted I have a lot of friends here, but at the end of the day it still feels like I'm living in a perpetual ghetto.

I know that I'll most likely end up not server-switching in favor of keeping with my friends, but still the possibility is VERY appealing.

Why is chocobo racing so hard to put in? lol.. I don't really care about it but it better be pretty damn good if it's been delayed so many times.

Really looking forward to Nyzul Isle Assaults tho, might be a heartbreaker but it has some serious potential.

SE would be foolish to let server switching be more than once max per character. I'd be surprised if they let you do it more than once per account, even (of course giving you the option of transferring all your chars, not just 1).

No no and no.
I hope they institute something along the lines of WoW where you can only change to a new server once every 6 months, it costs you money if you choose the server or FFXI tosses you to a random server if you want to do it for free and you can't go back and forth between 2 servers.
IE Cant go Titan > Asura > Titan; You would have to do Titan > Asura > Quetz > Titan (aka you can't hop back and forth)
