Proto-Omega: Time to throw in the towel?

My limbus shell has for the longest time, had the unfortunate distinction of being exclusive to members of my Dynamis LS. To that end, the amount of reliable members barely fills 2 parties worth of people. We've only attempted Proto-Omega two times because of being so short staffed. One occasion was far too long ago to remember many details, the other was ruined right off the bat when someone went Leroy Jenkins on us and dumped a fully boosted Chi Blast on the enemy at the start of the battle...

Now we have people leaving far faster than people joining so as it stands now, we can bring the following to the fight:

    1. Whm
    2. Thf or Nin or Bst - /war, /drk (will get if it'll turn the tide)
    3. Blm or Whm or War
    4. Mnk
    5. Rdm - /whm, /blm, /drk
    6. Smn or Pld - /war, /nin
    7. Pld - /blu, /nin, /war
    8. Mnk or Whm or Drg
    9. Drg
    10. Whm or Smn
    11. Blm or Smn or Brd
    12. Mnk or Smn

There are 2 unofficial members that can be called upon in reserve if required

    Mnk or Pld - /war, /nin
Brd or Rdm - /whm only

Everyone is adequately but not 'l33t' equipped (top tier purchased/quested/event items but very little god/HNM gear) with a medium amount of merits.

Seeing what we have to work with, do we stand a chance in hell or should I just throw in the towel and find a LS capable of getting some Homam with? If you think we can do it, what strategy advise do you have?

    Thanks bunches.

I thought Omega was killable by like 6 people if done right. I haven't done it though. Good luck.

Re: Proto-Omega: Time to throw in the towel?

Here's how I'd do it, it's probably not the best way, but it'd work.

    1. Whm
    2. Thf or Nin or Bst - /war, /drk (will get if it'll turn the tide): NIN/DRK
    3. Blm or Whm or War: BLM
    4. Mnk
    5. Rdm - /whm, /blm, /drk: RDM/DRK
    6. Smn or Pld - /war, /nin: SMN
    7. Pld - /blu, /nin, /war: PLD/NIN
    8. Mnk or Whm or Drg: WHM
    9. Drg
    10. Whm or Smn: SMN
    11. Blm or Smn or Brd: BRD
    12. Mnk or Smn: SMN

This gives you: WHM x2 NIN/DRK PLD/NIN BLM MNK DRG RDM/DRK BRD SMNx2 BRD

If any of your SMNs have /drk that'll help too. Come up with an automatic stun order. Just take whoever has stun (other than the NIN/DRK) and divide the stun timer by that amount of people, have them make an order and just stun when it's up.

Melee in 2 legs mode onry and make the DRG sub THF for SATA WS. BLM focuses on the pod/drain/light nukes during 4 legs. SMNs will need to help with pods. Have your MNK sub NIN and use chi-blast to claim spawning pods & tank until SMNs&BLM down them.

Other than that, it's just a matter of your tanks knowing what they're doing & how to kite during the last 25%. I'd suggest avoiding farming pods the last 25% since you guys are having trouble winning, and just CSS at 25% and take him down immediately.

You really shouldn't have much trouble winning, you only need 2 reliable, decent tanks, and enough stuns to make tanking him trivial.

Edit: Best advice I can give you is, Proto Ultima/Omega don't have TP regen, they have to get TP from what *you* do. But you do need melee WS to push him down (or you could use SMN BPs for that actually). SAMs are really good for that but you don't seem to have any. Just control his TP usage and take things slowly.

Re: Proto-Omega: Time to throw in the towel?

omega is fairly easy to topple with lower numbers. 6 is doable if you have well geared, skilled people who work cohesively as a team. given that your guys are going "leeroy" on you, that may not be the case, though with 12, you should still be OK. biggest things i can think of are a.) chainspell stun will probably help a lot to finish off form 3, and b.) you'll want a couple blm and a war/nin (editing note: is there any other sub for war? ><) to keep a CLOSE eye out for pod ejection. those suckers have maybe 1500 HP and go down easily, but while they're up they're fast, hit hard, unstunnable, and otherwise a pain, capable of killing my taru blm ass in 2 attack rounds with ease. have a war voke the gunpod away while the blm put a bullet or two thru its head. shouldn't need more than 2 blm to waste a gunpod EASILY. form 1, should be easy enough with even light mage damage, form 2, well i've rarely seen a shortage of melee damage. ^^ form 3, my group usually brings way more than we need b/c everyone wants a chance to play with omega, so that just evaporates as we chainspell stun it. doesn't last more than 50 seconds in that form. even still, i don't see why you can't kill it using similar strategies with 12. proto-omega is very easy to get to, with only 4 chips (some of which may even be returned mid fight) and is very easy to off with a modest group. proto-ultima, requiring 6 chips and having an ornery streak would be much harder for your group, though if you work well together, you may well be able to take it.

I can't provide too much information regarding full setup but here are my experiences as a tank on the Proto fights.

2xPLD/NIN can straight-tank Ultima for the entire fight if they constantly have Haste and double March up. A Ninja makes a good backup tank, especially during kiting mode if neither of your Paladins have Crimson Cuisses.

Also, the less poeple in your LS, the faster you can 5/5 Homam people. You should give it a few tries beforr throwing the towel. Best case scenario, you walk away with some coins and shinies (AF+1 and/or Homam)

Re: Proto-Omega: Time to throw in the towel?

Well, since someone mentioned my LJ on this, I figure I would give my 2 cents on your situation. The party setup I would recommend is slightly different than the ones mentioned above.

    1. Whm - WHM
    2. Thf or Nin or Bst - /war, /drk (will get if it'll turn the tide): NIN/DRK
    3. Blm or Whm or War: BLM/NIN (I'm assuming he has 37 NIN because he has a 75 WAR)
    4. Mnk - MNK
    5. Rdm - /whm, /blm, /drk: RDM/DRK
    6. Smn or Pld - /war, /nin: SMN
    7. Pld - /blu, /nin, /war: PLD/NIN
    8. Mnk or Whm or Drg: MNK
    9. Drg - DRG
    10. Whm or Smn: SMN
    11. Blm or Smn or Brd: BRD
    12. Mnk or Smn: SMN

This gives you a 12 man setup like this...

    NIN/DRK , PLD/NIN , RDM/DRK , WHM , BRD , SMN
    BLM/NIN , SMN , MNK , MNK, SMN
    DRG

Notice that the parties are intentially arranged to have 3 parties, not 2. This is so your BRD can rotate for ballads easily. As previously mentioned, the key to this fight is TP limitation - for the first 75% of it's HP, it has 0 TP regen. The style outlined in my LJ involves heavy BLM, which you do not have access to, but you have something which is arguably even better (and certainly safer) - that being SMN DD. SMN DD has the following advantages over your typical manaburn DD style -

    1) BPs gives 0 TP, just don't assault the avatar before you BP2)
    2) SMNs have access to both Melee and Magical BPs, so they are actively DDing 100% of the fight, unlike BLMs

KEEP YOUR MELEE AWAY FROM IT UNTIL 25% I hate to say it and I'm not trying to be biased, but they are a burden before the last 25% - on 4 legs they can't hurt it, on 2 legs, its just feeding TP and causing healing issues b/c of Omega's sick counter rate. They can help control pods until then, which is still an extremely important job.

Omega only has abougt 26,000HP - you can easily pull off 1,000 a minute I would think with 3 SMNs... that's excluding DoT. I'm being extremely conservative with that number there. Just netherblast while on 4 legs, dive/pred on 2. This gets you to 25% HP with about 8 minutes left to go, which is fine because you'll want to "gank" the last end due to the fact that the final form of Omega likes to spam pod ejection and get TP regen (this is bad). For the ganking phase, have your DRG use Angon at the start, the RDM/DRK chainspell stuns, and both MNKs break out with 100 fists. Have all 4 melee store TP before going using sleeping pots (bring an icarus wing too). BLM can 2hr spam nukes as well and whatnot. You basically have to do about 6500 damage in about 2 minutes to successfully gank it. 2 MNKs given SV songs is pretty strong. I don't see this being an issue. You also have 2 PLD 2hrs at your disposal.

The biggest issue I see is the handling of the pods since you only have 1 BLM. This is why the BLM should sub /NIN. I would have a MNK with /NIN pull the pod with chi blast, BLM nukes the strongest nuke possible (Freeze 2? try going in on blizzard/thunder day to help yourself out), pull hate, then try a quicker spell - you can probalby get a 3 spell off before it breaks 3 shadows. RDM can throw in a 3 nuke as well. The pod has roughly 1700HP - a very decked out BLM can 1 shot it - a decent BLM with a AM2 + RDM tier3 should kill it easily. If you happen to wipe, I'd guess it would be because of these pods.

About tanking... Omega is a joke to tank. It can't even double attack, everything you can possibly think of lands on at, and it doesn't even attack particular fast. The problem is it hits like a ton of bricks and the TP moves suck - but you're using the only form of DD in the game that grants 0 TP (that being SMN). Make sure your BRD keeps Elegy on it! Slow2 and Para are good as well, but Elegy is the big one. You can easily solo tank this with Elegy and getting March/Ballad2 + Haste.

All I can say is 1) Prepare well for how you want to handle your Pods 2) Keep Elegy on at all times 3) plan out your gank well (icarus wings, sleeping pots, SV songs prior, 100 fists x2, Angon, chainspell stun). Your group has more than enough firepower to win, it's just really a matter of experience and not panicking.

Small Edit: Sorry I miscounted your PLDs XD

Re: Proto-Omega: Time to throw in the towel?

Very sound advice from Kaeko, the only thing I really have to add is, the last 25% he doesn't really "spam" pods. He summons one about every 5 minutes or so (we always farm coins/chips towards the end). Pod management really isn't that hard honestly, our BLM/WHM who probably has average-good gear for an endgame player was able to 1 shot the pods with burst II.

You might want to consider having your DRG sub SAM and being your init blink for the pod. I can't remember if they have melee resistance or not (I'm sure someone can fill me in here) but DRG/SAM can med to 300% for a nice spirits within, and then switch to polearm & blink til the BLM finishes it with a nuke.

The real problem with the last 25% (in my opinion) is that he spams TP moves real quickly, laser shower has an additional effect defense down (which makes your tanks incur massive damage when hit with melee attacks), and Collosal Blow is throat stab with knockback. You have to run to stay alive and recast shadows when you have the chance. Stuns really help with the kiting, but he has enhanced movement speed and is gravity and bind immune.

CSS is really the safest way to kill him the last 25% as mentioned, it takes an experienced group with at least 2 WHMs & RDMs to help heal and balance things (and more stun) to farm chips during the 25% phase.

The 26000 HP is really not an underestimate, with 4-5 SAMs (and few other DDs) we can bring him from 90% HP to 25% during 1 melee window, he really does die that quickly.

You might want to tell your tanks not to engage, as stated the counter rate is probably high enough to outweigh any parrying bonuses you'd get (and I'm fairly certain shield procs without engaging).

Tell your blms to go /nin if they are responsible for killing gunpods. If a gunpod hits your blm he will hit around 700+ non-crit. It's no fun when every gunpod kills at least 1 blm because they got hit after casting their spell.

They don't hit *that* hard. /NIN is a good idea for whoever is on duty to pull them though.

Ait-something (me?) the Void Song dragon from Dynamis-Buburimu *does* hit that hard though. One-shotted me as a Hume BLM last run with a crit from full HP. I lol'd. :D

pods do hit hard in my experience. i was fully buffed with blink and stoneskin, and after getting off 1 nuke, i didn't even have enough time to get off my 2nd nuke to finish it when my other blm were napping on the job. it just went through me like a fat man at the pastry table (i'll give you a few seconds to savor that analogy.) i don't remember how many blinks (spell, not utsu) it hit, but i'm fairly sure that i had at least 1 when i died b/c the hits cleaved me down so fast.

before server transfers. i've learned to let the voker hold it and get beaten up till i see someone else start to nuke, then i move in to nuke with them. i'm not dying b/c people can't listen!
