    My debate

I've always been under the impression WAR/NIN with axe/joyeuse combo is retarded. WIll a fully meritted WAR/NIN with axe/axe combo out parse WAR/NIN axe/joyeuse? Gear wise, decent to fairly good.

Where's the "depends if the mob is weak to piercing or not" option?

It's hard to find a good axe/axe WAR these days for the sake of comparison <_>

that's the point of his question.

some of the standard exp spots feature piercing weak mobs. (nyzul isle colibri) others (mamool ja) do not. so, which do you consider 'standard'?

    Re: My debate

honestly parse close to the same, assuming really good gear, so sell the woodsville/jugger and increase other aspects of your gear (upgrade situational stuff etc).
though a really really solid axe/joy would be better then the raw axe/axe dmg, joytoy's combined delay with maneater is also lower then axe/axe on top of the added attacks + you're getting more tp due to double attacks.
my joytoy build was ok and i didn't get outparsed by any axe/axe build but people with better axe/joy builds or ridill did better then me (duh)
i'm not a very good writer but i hope i am getting the point across

    It's situational.

Bird Camp, Axe/Joy will own Axe/Axe quite easily.
Mamool, Axe/Axe will do better than Axe/Joy. (Though, they were close. Axe/Axe was just slightly better.)

Random screwing around = who cares.

That's my current experiences, anyhow, and seeing how the two went up against each other during exp camps.

    The magic word.

But in general I'd say Axe/Joy, the bane of Axe/Axe is it is very, very slow compared to other dual-wielders and even some 2 handers.

    Re: My debate

The main argument for 2x axe has always been the higher acc and atk obtainable than if you built around axe/sword. Now you can do 8/8 sword while keeping 8/8 axe as well, and if you can always switch to G Axe for a huge boost to acc/atk if that's what you need.

    Re: My debate

Considering every typical merit camp with the exception of one (Mamool north camp - Caedarva, Mamool south, and birds) has mobs weak to Piercing, plus Suppanomimi (which almost all WAR/NINs have) and the ability to merit both Axe AND Sword to 8/8 now, it's dumb to NOT go Axe/Joyeuse.

Mire doesn't count, why would anyone merit there? Usually I won't chain Puks and mainly aim for Mamool when in South or North so Axe/Axe is very good for that (You forgot upper nyzul isle too). Of course joy gets a piercing bonus on Colibiri so its pretty good for that assuming you merited both of the weapons.

    Re: My debate

Wont rampages be less damage then since you are using axe? Would the joyeuse only account for the less amount of damage delt cause the mobs aren't weak to slashing or whatever axes are?

That's assuming they don't put merits into other weapons for other jobs.

    Re: My debate

It's very close and depends on merits I think. Personally, I like Axe/Axe myself and I have 2 parses against far superior WARs (both merit and gearwise, Ebodies to my Hauby+1, Full merits when I had very little, Haidate while I dont have) and although I was beaten by both WARs it was by very little. Now, both WARs should have stomped me by looking at gear/merits and such but I held my own very well, which leads me to believe Axe/Axe is stronger.

I think Axe/Axe is better but Axe/Joy can be just as strong. Really, in merits if you are a good WAR you can use most anything and perform fine, not like it's a hard merit job.

btw, one Party was on G.Colibri and the other at Mamool Ja North Camp, so very different camps.

    My war is 8 axe/8 sword, I could go AXE/AXE !

Axe / axe is definitely more win than axe/joy, less merits to be effective too.
I only have 8 sword cause of a ridill

    Re: My debate

If you have sword merits I'd say axe/joy is better because you'll get a much higher TP output.

In the long run, the more hits that you land and the more rampages that you churn out compensate for the lower damage in the offhand.

And as someone mentioned before, delay on Joytoy is very hot.

    Re: My debate

From what I understand is axe/joy gives faster tp gain and you get piercing bonus on certain mobs vs axe/axe where you get more attack/acc overall but at the cost of delay+.

Pretty much as others have already pointed out, it mostly depends on your specific gear setup, merits, mob, etc. and probably even preference. But I would hardly call war/nin axe/joy combo 'retarded'. Something like axe/ifrit blade would register better as retarded.

suggestion: have you tried both? I find trying shit is out is easiest way to find out what I like, despite others opinions.
